Readers may have noticed a groundbreaking in late October at the northeast corner of Germantown Parkway and Wolf River Boulevard. By October 2014, Baptist Rehabilitation-Germantown expects to start admitting patients to the new, 56,000 square-foot, $33 million facility being built on this site.

Currently, patients receive rehab at Baptist Rehab-Germantown on Exeter Road. All other services presently offered at the Exeter hospital will remain there; only inpatient beds will move.
According to administrator and CEO Brian Hogan, “A new facility is necessary to provide patient care in large private rooms and in a hospital with many common areas for patients and families to be able to visit.” The therapy gyms will also be larger with updated equipment.

The new hospital is designed to provide acute inpatient rehabilitation to patients with neurological diagnoses, such as stroke, brain injury, and spinal cord injury, as well as rehabilitation care for patients with amputations, complex orthopedic disorders, and many other general conditions.

Among the unique innovations here will be the specialty brain injury unit, with a separate gym and a camera that monitors patients for safety issues. Some rooms and the gym will have patient lifts that will help both patients and staff with both safety
and mobility.

Also on site will be an “activity for daily living suite,” where patients can practice cooking, bathing, laundry, and other household duties. Outside, they and their families can enjoy the mobility garden with its various surfaces that aid with ambulation.  Outside, too, will be a basketball court, a golf-driving and putting area, and a gazebo.

Partnering with Baptist Memorial Health Care on this state-of-the-art facility is Centerre Healthcare, which is headquartered in Franklin, Tennessee. According to Hogan, Centerre is a “national leader in acute inpatient rehabilitation care and in partnering with medical centers to complete their healthcare continuum.”

Beyond that, Hogan points out this nice bonus the clientele can enjoy: “A great location at an easily accessible intersection, with great views of the Wolf River area and lake that are adjacent to the hospital.”
