Aerotropolis Conference Slated for Tuesday

Anyone interested in air traffic as a regional economic generator should mark their calendars for Tuesday, when the Mid-South Aerotropolis Conference will be held at the University of Memphis' University Center. The day-long event is a joint effort between the Greater Memphis Chamber and the university's Intermodal Freight Transportation Institute.

At the conference, attendees will gain a better understanding of the local Aerotropolis Economic Development Strategy and how similar strategies have been deployed elsewhere. Speakers will include Shaun Donovan, secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development; Tennessee Sen. Lamar Alexander; Amy Liu, co-director and senior fellow of the Metropolitan Policy Program at Washington's Brookings Institute; and Dr. John Kasarda, a North Carolina professor who originated the term "aerotropolis."

This year's event follows the Airport Cities World Conference and Exhibition last April in Memphis. That conference drew more than 600 officials from 40 countries.

The Mid-South Aerotropolis conference is free but registration is required. To register, visit memphischamber.com or call 901-543-3547.
