Carpet Tech Inc., Changes Name to Artisent Floors

Today is the grand opening and official launch of Artisent Floors, previously Carpet Tech Inc., complete with a new location, warehouse, showroom, and new services for customers.

The Memphis-based, family-run company that opened its doors in 1985 as a carpet cleaning business has made some major changes over the years by shifting from cleaning carpets to selling and installation for mainly multi-family apartment complexes and building/construction work. However, in the past few years, changes have been steady as owners Barry and Sherri Griffith welcomed sons Alex as chief operations officer and Jake as chief financial officer and daughter Maddie into the business.

“Our multi-family contracts are recurring business since they flip the apartments so often, as opposed to regular homes,” says Maddie Griffith, director of marketing. “We have had the less glamorous side of the flooring business, but it's been our bread and butter for the past 20 plus years.” But when Alex graduated college and came to work for the company, he hit the ground running adding facilities in Jackson, Mississippi; Little Rock and Fayetteville, Arkansas; and St. Louis, Missouri within the past three years. Jake and Maddie followed suit. “We have been growing so fast that we have something like 15 employees that haven't even been here a year,” says Maddie. But don't let the newness fool you; they aren't sacrificing quality for quantity.

“We had never advertised before, but when we decided to buy this building we decided we needed to. We now have two billboards. We just thought we're on the interstate, we have all this exposure, we have showrooms, we do flooring. Why not try the retail thing?” says Maddie.

In addition, the former location wasn't quite large enough to accommodate the growing business added from the new facilities, and a larger warehouse was crucial for a company doing its own logistics. The 68,000 square-foot building, formerly Samuels Furniture Co. Inc. building, provided both a larger warehouse and new showroom space to satisfy adding the retail element. The Griffiths purchased the building in December and have completely redone the facility in four short months. “We wanted more of a high class feel [to our showroom] when you go to look for flooring. We want it to feel more like a boutique store than chain,” says Maddie.

The name Carpet Tech Inc., made sense with selling and installation, but with the addition of retail, it was time to bite the bullet and rebrand. Now open for business at 2449 Scaper Cove, Artisent Floors showcases carpet, tile, and hardwood flooring.
