Valerie June Goes National
Valerie June on the cover of the July/August 2012 MBQ
After years of hard work and dedication, all of a sudden the Mid-South's own Valerie June is everywhere.
The musician has a new album out, Pushin' Against a Stone.
Chris Herrington wrote about her and the album in last week's cover story in MBQ's sister publication, Memphis Flyer. The Commercial Appeal featured her this week as well.
June's album is terrific. But don't just take it from us locals. June has been prominently featured nationally the last few weeks, on NPR, The New York Times Magazine, Vogue, and in Starbucks.
And, tonight, June makes her network TV debut on The Late Show with David Letterman. (Channel 3 in Memphis, 10:30 p.m.)
We're so happy she's getting the exposure she so richly deserved. In honor of the occasion, below is an outtake from the photo shoot from when June was on the cover of MBQ's July/August 2013 Music & Entertainment issue. Her first single from the album is called, appropriately enough, "Workin' Woman Blues."
Does this mean there's a such thing as an MBQ bump?
