Congratulating Monogram Foods CEO Karl Schledwitz, Entrepreneur of the Year Finalist

Ernst & Young has announced this year’s 24 finalists for the 2014 Entrepreneur of the Year Award, Southeast Program, a prestigious award recognizing entrepreneurs who exemplify innovation, financial success and commitment to their businesses and communities.

Selected by a panel of independent judges, Tennessee executives make up five of this year’s finalists, including Memphis’ own Karl Schledwitz, Chairman and CEO of Monogram Food Solutions.

Schledwitz co-founded the Memphis-based processed meat production company in 2004 along with company president Wes Jackson after acquisition of the King Cotton, Circle B and Farmer’s Pride brands from the Sara Lee Corporation. Over the last 10 years, he has been instrumental in building Monogram’s revenue by $100 million, solidifying the company’s place in the $150 billion national meat industry.

In addition to his leadership at Monogram, Schledwitz, a native Memphian, is also an active philanthropist and community leader. He serves on the board of directors of the Memphis Zoo, The University of Tennessee Board of Trustees, The University of Tennessee Research Foundation, the Mid-South Fair Advisory Board, the Southland Companies LLC, and is a graduate of Leadership Memphis. He holds a B.A. from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and a J.D. from the University Of Memphis School Of Law. Prior to his experience at Monogram, Schledwitz built a successful career in venture capital founding, developing, and selling successful businesses across the country, with corporate buyers including ServiceMaster and RentACenter.

Schledwitz is one of three finalists in the Food & Beverage award category, along with Cameron W. McRae of Tands, Inc. and Affiliates, Kinston, NC, and Michael D. Olander of The Apple Gold Group, Raleigh, NC. The Southeast Program region includes Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee.

The finalists in this year’s eight categories have collectively impacted their companies with a 44% employment increase and a 37% revenue increase between 2011 and 2013, according to Ernst & Young.

Award recipients will be announced at a gala on June 26 at the InterContinental Buckhead Hotel in Atlanta.
