Sissy's Log Cabin Breaks Ground at Laurelwood
At 10 a.m. this morning, Sissy's Log Cabin Fine Jewelry broke ground on its fourth location with words from Tom Prewitt, President of Laurelwood Shopping Center, Bill Jones, president of Sissy's Log Cabin, Sissy Jones, CEO and founder, and Shelby County Mayor Mark Luttrell.
Fellow Laurelwood merchant Frost Bake Shop passed around mini cupcakes, as Bill Jones explained why they decided to open their first location outside the state of Arkansas, right here in Laurelwood Shopping Center. "We're thrilled about coming to Memphis, it's going to absolutely fantastic," said Bill Jones. "While some might think 'Sissy's Log Cabin' is a funny name for a jewelry store, for those that don't know us, my mother [Sissy Jones] started this back in 1970 in a 900-square-foot cabin in Pine Bluff, Arkansas." This family owned and operated store will continue the tradition when Bill's son, Michael, moves to Memphis to help manage the new location.
Mayor Luttrell echoed the importance of stores like Sissy's to the local economic climate saying, "We appreciate so much the presence of a family owned business in this community. We've recognized for a long time that it's nice to have the big companies come to town, but it's actually the small businesses that sustain our economy. We grow our economy one brick at a time, and Sissy's is a great brick to have here in Shelby County, and we welcome you to Memphis."
The store will be located between current merchants James Davis and Talbots Petites and is scheduled to open between September 15 and October 1 of this year.
