05/25/12Christian Brothers Offers New Degree ProgramStarting this August, Christian Brothers University will be offering a new degree in Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics, the first of its kind in the Memphis area. The degree is designed to train experts in preventing losses resulting from online security breaches. The CBU curriculum will combine courses in computer science, electrical engineering, and management information systems, to help students learn how to protect data stored within computer networks. 05/22/12MBQ Wins Gold Medal at CRMAMBQ: Inside Memphis Business was honored last night by the City and Regional Magazine Association (CRMA), receiving the Gold Medal Award as best magazine in its category. The awards were announced at the CRMA annual conference at Caesar's Palace Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. MBQ competed in the Best Ancillary Publication I category. MBQ is an ancillary publication of Memphis magazine, itself a finalist and multiple winner of the CRMA award for General Excellence. Other finalists for the award with MBQ were Charlotte Wedding and Charlotte Home + Garden (both ancillaries of Charlotte Magazine), Martha's Vineyard Home & Garden (Martha's Vineyard Magazine), and Westchester Home (Westchester magazine). 05/16/12MCA Information Officer Completes CertificationRichard Valerga, chief information officer for Memphis City Schools, is the first public school system CIO in the nation to complete the 2011-2012 National Certified Government Chief Information Officers Program (CGCIO) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The program, which is run from the university's School of Government, is designed for government technology directors and CIOs. It is 240 hours long and teaches management, general leadership. legal, regulatory, and enterprise topics such as strategic technology planning. Since its inception in 2005, 700 public-sector leaders have graduated from the program. 05/14/12Wunderlich Joins Shelby Farms BoardKent Wunderlich is the newest member of the Shelby Farms Park Conservancy board. The conservancy manages and operates the park, along with the Shelby Farms Greenline, in conjunction with county government. Wunderlich is chairman of the board, CEO and general counsel for Memphis-based Financial Federal Bank. He also served on the Memphis University School's Board of Trustees for more than 20 years, nine years as chair. As a member of the conservancy board, he is responsible for helping with fundraising, budgeting, setting the vision for the 4,500-acre park, and managing its natural resources. He is a member of the local Bar Association and Lambda Alpha. |

05/08/12McFarland Promoted at Visible Music CollegeChristy McFarland has been promoted vice president of business at downtown's Visible Music College. She previously worked as director of marketing and replaces Sam Garrett, who is now heading the college's nonprofit record label, Madison Line Records. McFarland's new responsibilities include marketing and public relations for the music and worship arts college, as well as overseeing the business and operations for the school. Originally from Cabot, Arkansas, she previously served as director of public affairs at what is now Victory University. 05/04/12Renasant Bank Enters East Tenn. MarketRenasant Bank is moving into the East Tennessee market with an opening location in Maryville, the bank's Tupelo-based parent company has announced. The full-service bank will serve as Renasant's headquarters in East Tennessee, with an initial 13 employees at 329 E. Broadway. This marks the $4.2 billion bank's eighth expansion in the Southeast in the past 18 months. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of the 108-year-old Rensant Corporation. The Maryville bank is expected to be open by the end of the second quarter. Leading it will be banking veteran Kent Vaught, whose title is East Tennessee division president. 05/01/12Holmes Becomes President of FirstBankChris Holmes, a banker who has worked in Memphis in the past, is the new president of FirstBank in Lexington, Tenn. He's the third president the bank has had since 1984. FirstBank has $2.1 billion in total assets and is among the top 5 percent of all U.S. banks, according to company information. It has 612 employees in 54 locations throughout the Southeast. Before joining the bank's board of directors in 2010, Holmes was director of corporate financial services and chief retail banking officer for South Financial Group of Greenville, South Carolina.
